As life's pleasures go, food is second only to sex. Except for salami and fresh bread after a long day’s sailing. Now that's better than sex, but only if the salami is thickly sliced.

The trick therefore is to ensure one has sufficient preserved meat for a few months at sea!

So what do you do?...you buy a 3 kilo slab of the stuff and then try and work out where you can hang it without getting concussed when it swings through the cabin on a 30 degree heel. Unfortunately concussion is inevitable and you risk salmonella poisoning as the damn stuff is actually supposed to be stored below 4 degrees if you want to keep it for more than a week….hmmmm

Thankfully we have found a solution….

Ralph was asking Hans smallgoods about storage options and longevity and a delightfully helpful sales consultant, ‘Chris’, informed him of another product...Hans ‘Strikers’ (vacuum packed, bite sized tubes of spiced meaty goodness)…..and even sent him 2 whole boxes to try!! What a gem!!

So…. We now have a solution to keeping meat on board for those times when we just can’t stomach any more fish….

Oh and I probably should mention…. We have a beautiful new mainsail!!!!!
